Inspired by David Hockney by Clare

We have been looking at the series of swimming pools by the British artist David Hockney.

The children have been experimenting as well as drawing on their study of other artists and their observation of water and its qualities.

We compared the photographs of a splash to the painting ‘The splash’ and talked about how the artist created the effect with choice of colour and application of paint. We also noticed how the body is distorted by the water. Some children experiment with making a splash of their own!

The children were interested in the use of colour and the application of paint…

…and created their own works of art.

This Hockney drawing of movement on water inspired the use of finger on paint to achieve a similar effect.
