Every single thing we teach a child, is a thing we are stopping them from inventing or discovering.

We have 25 places for children from 2 to 4 years old in our Preschool group (2 nd birthday before
31st July) and 27 places for children from 4 to 6 years old in our School group (equivalent to 1 st and 2 nd

L’écoline is open every weekday from 7:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. The timetable is
flexible,, with a minimum rate of 3 mornings (until 2:00 p.m.) for the Preschoolers, of 4 mornings (until
2:30 p.m.) + 1 afternoon (until 4:00 p.m.) for the School 1 children and 4 full days until 4:00 p.m. for the
School 2 children.
Possibility to come only 1 day or half-day on Wednesday only, in our mix-aged group (2-6 years old).

The educator/child ratio is: 1/7 for children up to 30 months of age, then 1/10 for the other
children in the Preschool group, then 1/14 maximum for children in the School group. These
professionals are assisted by « Atelierista » who are specialists in the visual Arts, Dance, Nature, etc. as
well as Classroom Assistants, Apprentices and Trainees. (> Team )

Our meals are prepared and delivered by a ‘Local Caterer’, who proposes mainly organic, local
and seasonal meals. Our snacks are prepared either by a ‘Local Caterer’ or in-house (homemade cakes
and bread, fruit, which is always organic) and sometimes supplemented by birthday cakes which the
families bring. Mealtimes take place in a family-like atmosphere, with one adult at each table to
encourage the children to try, discover and appreciate new and different foods.

The children have the option of taking an afternoon nap (2 hours maximum). For the
children who no longer take a nap, there is a rest/relaxation time after the meal, before a time for free

Children have access to regular ‘ateliers’ in science, visual arts, nature and dance, as well as
‘ateliers’ by parents and other specialists on particular topics during school time. For the children who
stay after 4:00 p.m. other ‘ateliers’ are also available (Magic Moment, Dance, Capoeira, Zumba, Yoga,
English Club).

Our environment is bilingual, in that the staff and children speak mainly French or
English. It is not strictly speaking an immersion programme, as learning a second language is not an
educational objective in itself here. We notice that children do become fluent in French and understanding
English develops to varying degrees.

Our indoor spaces are light and spacious and inspired by the Reggio Emilia
approach. They evolve during the year with the children’s projects and work. Children also spend a
substantial part of their day in the local forest and at the lake, both of which are at five minutes walk from
the school.

We follow the school calendar of Vaud. L’écoline is closed for 3 weeks in August and for 2
weeks over Christmas and the New Year. During the other school holidays, l’écoline provides holiday
clubs which are subject to a specific enrolment process and fees. (> General Terms and Conditions )

L’écoline is the first “Eco-School’ in Switzerland. Every year staff, children and
parent-volunteers explore a sustainable development theme ( food, waste, biodiversity…).
